Rob, I suspect your doctor, understandably, is just trying to cover his tail and wants to make certain your headaches aren't caused by something other than cluster syndrome. I underwent an MRI last year for this reason. I don't believe an MRI will allow a neurologist to detect a cluster headache suffer, however I have read somewhere that MRI's or CT scans may show a "depression" (?) in a part of the brain that may be unique to cluster and migrane suffers. (I am not an M.D.).
