Was there a file attached to the email and if so, what was it named and did you open it?

Almost all virus' come in the form of an attachment. NEVER open attachments that you are not expecting, even if the sender is someone you know. Virus' use the address book of an infected person to automatically email themselves, so chances are the sender will be known to you.

Get and keep updated a good anti-virus program. McAfee and Norton are two places you can go to download AV software.

Using the Internet and email without a good anti-virus program is like having unprotected sex with the patients of an AIDS clinic.
