My suggestion is the more painkillers, the better. It definitely sounds like a painfull cluster headache to me. I have one right now. Ask him if it is a runny nose is on one side of his face, and if he feels a peircing pain that throbs in one of his temples, and if his jaw and neck ache on the same side. That is a cluster
