it's O2 at high rates for long periods of time that they suspect can damage the lungs. But if it's at a low rate I don't think (and that's the key word) it is harmful. The CPAP machines used for sleep apnea deliver low rates, like 2-3 L p/m all night long, which is a method to treat the ever-controversial sleep-apnea. :-)
