For a good many years some docs have used ergotamine, 2mg sublingual tabs, taken before bedtime to prevent attacks.
Besides being pretty effective, the cost in my area (North Carolina) is about $3-4 a tab.
While in a cycle, some docs also try 2 of this tabs during the day (12-hr apart)as a preventive. I find this especially helpful during hot weather when, during an cycle, physical work will regularly trigger a CH.
