I'd start your learning search here. Rahter than O2 I'd look at REM sleep, the associated activity of the Pons and it's action on the Thalamus. Remember that Goadsby's research shows that cluster headaches start with activity in the hypothalamus and extend from there with activity in the nerons and then blood vessels.
