Since Dave's quotation does not employ the vernacular of the time in the initial quotation, it would therefore be incorrect and inconsistent to employ the "thy" form in the response.
"Yourself" is therefore quite correct in context, as it corresponds to the original "you". Had he initially said "thou," then yes, the "thy" form would apply.
Or are you alluding to something else, or was this some sort of cryptic metaphor, or just a simple attempt at a lesson in grammar and useage? Just curious.
