I do that too. I say I'll suffer this for (Whomever), and it doesn't lessen the pain in the slightest. It never has made me happy to have it. It never gave me pride, machismo, an ability to deal with the extreme pain, a sense of heroicism, the lack of thoughts to end it all at a 10, an appreciation for it, a sense of learning, or anything else like that during an attack. What it has allowed me to do is say (and hope it works) "give it to me and not "whomever." And just take it. It makes it allowable if I convince myself I took one away from whomever I choose.
