The males only shed once a year in the springtime where the females not only shed then but also before each heat cycle that occurs 2-3 times per year and these are major coat blows, think the females like to change coats, if the dog is bred, yet another cycle of coat blowing occurs after weaning, a female bred back to back can have 5 coat changes a year, also one of our females has PMS and will attack the other dogs but always ends up at the short end of the stick, her with flesh wounds, me with the vet bill, so have to watch her carefully, other times they get along fine, ah females, can't live without them, can't live with them. LOL
