For me the shadow feels like a backward bulging and distorted bloated mess of an eyeball. It exerts pressure throughout the upper potion of my affected side (right) and may cantinue for many hours with little change in intensity. Now that describes a strong shadow occuring in the midst of a (normal ?)cycle. The shadows are less intense in the days leading up to the first attack and diminish a bit towards the end of an episode. I used to take narcotics regularly to knock the shadows down to more bearable but became bombarded with evcessive rebound headaches. When possible short ie: 45 minute naps seem to help as does breathing cold air deeply with the nostrils. Good luck. Shadows are very real and very unsettling.
