In AA, it is stressed that one must come to believe that a power greater than themselves can restore them to sanity. And, some of the old timers would say even if you had to put your faith in a rock (for example) faith is an all important part of coping with life. Somehow, I don't think a rock could help me cope with anything, unless I can use that rock the way Ernest T. Bass used them... by throwing them. Someone once told me that if I believe and live as a Christian is taught to believe & live, and I'm wrong, I've lost nothing... but if I believe as an Atheist believes and I'm wrong, boy howdy! It's hell!
