My husband just had a third bonegraft on his collarbone since Dec.26.His first Dr. was too conservative with pain control meds. and sent him home from the hospital within in 24 hours. The doc who performed surgery this time prescribed oxycontin along with a shorter acting pain killer as needed. Even though this surgery was much more involved, he is experiencing far less discomfort than the first two times. People need to take pain meds. as scheduled to get the greatest benefit... not the greatset buzz. Of course, there are those people who will use and abuse drugs, and they are not helping those people in chronic or acute pain.
