at my local IGA, the IGA brand is $1.89 a pound, all cleaned and ready to blend where in the produce department they were running more than $2.00 a pound and there are always some rotten ones in the bottom, plus they have to be trimmed and washed, our produce department is out of fresh berries, too cold in CA they say. I can drive 60 miles and pick my own, but have to do that at just the right time and it takes me forever to find only the best berries, and the lady gets angry at me if I don't take some of the bad ones as well, if I pick say 40 pounds, I am lucky to make a buck fifty an hour in savings, rather sit at my computer in an air conditioned office and make a whole more bunch of money than creep in a hot dusty field picking berries, God, I am lazy. I tried growing my own berries one year, sure made the insects and birds happy, was lucky to get one rotten berrie for my efforts.
