The brain very closely regulates the amount of oxygen it receives. That, in fact, is why breathing oxygen helps in aborting a CH: Since the blood carries more oxygen the arteries in the head are constricted for a constant supply to the brain, so why should the brain cells be fried???
There is a small danger of damaging the lungs, but only if used for hours at a time. And never use a knife, you could cut your fingers.
