The pulsating sensation and location (centre of head expanding outward) aren't symptomatic of CH. The attack while asleep is, but raising one's head won't ease a cluster.

Not meaning to frighten you, but I do think you should get back to the doc and be checked out again. The pulsation might be heartbeat-related, which might indicate a serious vascular problem such as aneurysm or even an impending stroke.

Please see your doc again and if my fears are groundless and it does turn out to be CH, come back here to learn all there is to know about clusters.
