I just found this board today. I was clearly diagnosed with CH today, after suffering for over 3 years. It was usually only a 2-3 weeks long, then went away. Only came in winter and spring, so I thought it was nasal in nature. Went to the doctor's today after having another spell last night. This was about the worst spell ever. Quoted experiences of banging heads on walls and pulling hair out couldn't describe more what I go through in the middle of the night. No-one can help me. The doctor immediately prescribed Lithium. My mother is a nurse and was very surprised to hear that such a strong drug was prescribed so early. What scares me is the fact that the Dr. said no problems with driving or daily activities, but right on the description card it said, do not operate heavy machinery or drive until effects on you are known, as it may cause drowsiness. Not to mention the many other side effects the drug may cause. The cure for one gives you 10 other ailments.
I usually resort to taking advil before bed every night, in fear the pain would come back. Usually an hour or two after falling asleep, the attacks come immediately and last for at least 30-40 minutes. Every time I get them they seem to get worse. I walk everywhere around the house, trying to take my mind off the splitting pain behind my left eye. I try a hot wash cloth over my eye and breathing in the steam, getting in the shower, hitting my head, and finally curling up in a ball on the floor. I loose sleep and get frustrated to the point of screaming. It only happens at night. I'm hoping to find some solutions, other than strong drugs, at least some insight into this pain in my head.
