"Because of the short half life of sumatriptan (about
two hours), it has no prophylactic effect. However, sumatriptan can be given over a long period of time and generally
has few side effects. Its high cost is one discouraging feature. Doses can be given up to 2-3 times per 24 hours. Since
> two attacks can occur per day, many patients overuse the drug and in some cases may seem to enter a vicious
circle. This may lead to chronic paroxysmal hemicrania (CPH). According to current guidelines, ergotamine and
