I have seen neuros on a constant basis for over 15 years. I started for epilepsy and finished for cluster headaches. I think the reason I saw a neuro for both instead of my GP is that I had complex cases. My eplilepsy was not responding to any meds and I was alergic to all meds I did try. As far as CH I am chronic and have tried all meds possible and have only showed a possible hope in lithium and that seems to be with limited success now. Neurologist's are suppose to be more up to date on what to do for you for headache meds, are better trained at diagnosing it, are better at pain management. Once you get your ch under control you should only need to see your neuro one or two times a year and then see your gp the rest of the year. I see my gp for pain management because my neuro is so hard to get ahold of because he is busy, busy, busy. He is the best in his field and top in his dept. I would suggest you find a neuro and a dr. that are willing to communicate and talk together about you. What meds
your on, the plan, that way if one dr is to busy you have another dr to go to. It has saved me plenty of times. Also it helps to have the specialist right there to order the test, and interpret the test. No waiting.
