As you probably already figured out painkillers are not the answer...you really should get your doctor to prescribe an abortive. The first 12 years of my CH's I did not know what I had, only that it hurt BIG TIME!!! I was popping all kinds of pain meds, all to no avail!! Oxygen is the best thing I've found so far, and I'm sure that my liver appreciates the fact that I've given up on the narcotics!! Have you tried prednisone, DHE or any of the other abortives mentioned on this site???
