Don't know the effects of oxy contin. I have a dislocated jaw with horrendous nerve pain in my facial bones, muscles and neck, and cannot function at all IF I am not taking MS Contin and am on the lowest dose of 15 mg. 2X. To most chronic pain folks, this is like taking aspirin, but I am reluctant to build up my tolerance and hence, need higher dosages over time. At least this allows me to work somewhat. I have gone off it 3 times to see what the original pain was, as I never remember while it is relieved, and the pain was unbearable each time; I wanted to die. I don't know how I survived 12 years without an effective pain medication. Don't let doctors tell you it's in your head or that you can become addicted...neither are relevant when a doctor's first obligation to any patient is to address the patient's pain effectively and try to find a treatment to fit the patient rather than making the patient fit the treatment.
The ONLY lasting side effect is constipation, which I am normally already prone to with certain foods. I have learned to eat alot of bran muffins and to put OG ground flaxseed in or on top of nearly everything I eat; luckily it tastes pleasantly nutty and adds a nice texture to most things, especially ice cream, to which I have a definite addiction. Also slippery elm capsules help ALOT. I am reluctant to take over the counter laxatives as they leach minerals and vitamins from your body, except for metamucil, which is just very expensive commercial non-organic flax.
I have not taken the oxy contin, but if the fatigue is less, I may have to switch for awhile to see what it's effects are.
Hope this helps! email for more info.....
