Caffeine may help constrict blood vessels. Headaches that occur when reducing intake could be do to caffeine withdrawal and are more likely to occur in people who are accustomed to drinking more than 300 mg of caffeine per day.
Reduction of coffee consumption slowly by one cup per week, over a period of 2 to 3 weeks to avoid worsening headaches. Abstaining for a month, one can resume drinking one cup of coffee per day.
