I (and many others who have posted their experiences) have the good fortune to live in a country where the use of psilocybin mushrooms is not illegal, but that is not the case with everyone. These folks may want to take the time and trouble to use an anonymizing service.
On the other hand, I think it highly unlikely that...
1) ...the authorities are monitoring this board in the first place. Why would they?
2) ...the authorities would go to the effort of tracking down addresses of people discretely using a natural (though admittedly illegal) remedy to help them in their fight against agonizing pain. Believe it or not, people in law enforcement do sometimes have consciences, and it's not as if we are selling crack to kids at Phish concerts.
3) ...the authorities could get a search warrant based solely on information gleaned from this board. We know already that many people post fictitious stuff here, looking for attention. I think a judge would be smart enough to figure that out, too.
4) ...the authorities would choose to prosecute. It would be too embarassing. I know that if I, for instance, was charged and taken to court over it, I could find dozens of lawyers who would happily take the case free for the publicity value. Even if the case actually made it to trial, what jury in the world would convict? Read out a few selected posts from this message board in open court and you'd have even a stone weeping, let alone a normal juror.
Thanks for bringing up some points that less computer-savvy people may not have considered.
