This is a personal observation about Depakote. I was put on it a couple of years ago not for cluster headaches but for vertigo attacks, which at the time they thought might have been mini seizures.

I do not remember the dosage level I was on, but I HATED it. It made me feel very emotionally flat. Like I was only allowed to experience the world in black and white while everyone else got full color. It made me feel like something else was controlling what I was feeling. Nasty. When my neurologist offered to put me on it for my current cluster I told her no. She ended up giving me verapamil instead, which, while potentially nasty in it's own way, does not seem to mess with my emotions.

CH makes me crazy when I am having a headache, but to feel like I am not living life when I am not having a headache seems to me to be a particularily cruel level of hell.

Again, this is my observation only. You may not mind that emotional flatness, and the meds may work well for you.
