I've had this condition since I was 17. I'm now 63 and can honestly say that I've had a full and interesting life in spite of the hideous bouts with the Beast which occur every three years like clockwork. When I have a pain free period, I sometimes think about this curse and wonder "Why me?" During one of these meditations it occurred to me that maybe I wasn't putting things in proper perspective. Would I trade this condition for a serious physical deformity? Would I trade it for the nightmarish psychic pain suffered by people struggling with guilt? Would I even trade it for a crippling arthritic condition or blindness or deafness? My answer to these (and many other similar) questions is always a resounding "No!" I'll suffer what God has given me to bear as best I can, and forever thank Him that it's not something which I fear even more.
