What is left unstated is whether there is an increase in blood vessels everywhere in the body, or just at the site where the patch is applied. The following sentence seems to indicate the latter, but is still somewhat ambiguous:
"it will be important to deliver the agents that encourage vessel growth directly to the place where needed"
This is something I never would have expected. Biology is strange.
