My first line of defence has, for many years, been a British OTC med called co-codamol, which is effervescent, rather like alka-seltzer. It contains paracetamol (acetominaphen) codeine and in some versions, caffeine.

The powders are the nearest substitute available here, in the USA, that is OTC. Too bad there isn't a version available with codeine... perhaps somewhere there is (anyone know? Mexico perhaps?). With the caffeine speeding absorbtion through the stomach lining, it can help, but the lack of strength of it's analgesic properties are it's major downfall. Certainly one of the fastest methods to get oral medicine into the bloodstream.
Wishing all PFDANS
Regards,
James.
