There isn't usually any tearing, although sometimes he does get a stuffy nose. We had always contributed that to his allergies. He does
take Claritin daily. He has tried Imititrex, but
that worsened the pain and induces nausea, and
the most recent attempt was Elavil. It helped
him sleep, but did nothing to stop the attacks.
The pain is compared to a bolt of lightening that
strikes him in the back of the head. It can happen in the middle of a converstation, or wake
him from sleep. How he acts, depends on the
severety, how many pains, and how long they last.
The mildest just cause him to close his eyes til
it passes. The worst cause him to bang his head
on whatever is closest, cause severe muscle spasms
almost like a seizure, and he can sometimes have
an almost post ictal state.
