- Don't give up on the verapamil until you are using 480mg or are having trouble with side effects
- Consider trying Amerge. Doesn't act as fast as Imitrex injection, but has a much longer half life. If you are using Imitrex multiple times per day, Amerge might be very helpful. Combinations of Amerge and Imitrex are not yet approved, but can be considered between you and your doc
- Minimize other pain killers. Some will cause an increase in the number of headaches you get in a day after long, frequent use. Much easier said than done, but if you are getting relief from the Amerge, then minimize the pain killers as much as you can tolerate.
