A BoD meeting was held in Atlanta during OUCH 2001. Those present were Bob P. DJ, Riccardo, Ueli and myself. In Drummers (Dave Greenly) absence, I was not only acting president but also chairman of the 2001 convention. When OUCH 2002 came up, it was noted that Bonnie and Warren had volunteered to co-chair a convention in Vancouver if we would consider having it there. Among the issues discussed were cost, ease of getting there and the fact that the first two conventions were held here in the US. At present, the US $ is about 1.50 Canadien and Vancouver is an international port. It was decided by the BoD to accept this generous offer and set OUCH 2002 for Vancouver for June 28 thru 30. The vote of the BoD was unaminous. Now, before anyone says "What about the rank and file members?" I would like to reminisce re OUCH 2000 in Vegas. Yes, those that attended had a great time but only due to Bob Ps efforts who took over the whole thing with less than 4 months notice. The location was mostly decided on the chm
board (fiasco number 1) and some obscure travel agent was in charge of procuring rooms (fiasco number 2). Many attendees paid an exorbitant room rate as quoted by the travel agent. OUCH 2000 was a moderate sucess despite the short notice Bob had and one of the discussions was how to make it better next year. Early and non-refundable registration was one of the rules adopted. OUCH 2001 was a huge success (thanks E & T) but there is no reason why 2002 can't be even better. And for those that wish to post parts of the bylaws, may I respectfully refer you to the full body. In particular, Article VII, Section 2a, Subsection c Appointment of commitees, and also Section c, Vice president duties.
