Three things could happen if you take a dose tonight.

1) You postpone your cycle for several months... perhaps as long as a year.

2) You have a great trip but your cycle returns on schedule anyway.

3) You trigger a new cycle.

No one can say for sure which of these outcomes is guaranteed, but we can make informed predictions as to which is most probable.

From what we have learned from patients who have chosen to share their experiences here on the board, outcome 1) is the most probable. I have received private e-mails from two individuals who claimed that their cycles were as regular as clockwork, with no variations in (in one case) fifteen years or more of CH. Each did a dose of mushrooms in advance of any warning signs in the hopes of warding off a coming cycle. One did a "recreational" dose of mushrooms, the other did barely enough to feel it.

Last I heard, both were still waiting for their cycles to begin. One of them said his cycles ALWAYS started in May before the mushrooms. The other said his cycles ALWAYS started in June before the mushrooms.

It must be noted, however, that the timing of cycles can change for anyone, even those who have been regular since their cycles began. This is not PROOF that the mushrooms prevented a cycle that would have otherwise occurred. It could be just two coincidences.

Outcome 2) is possible. Even if the two individuals I mentioned above WERE able to eliminate a scheduled cycle by taking mushrooms, there is no guarantee that the same will hold true for everyone. For what it's worth, I personally think that outcome 2) is PROBABLE, not just possible. Note that this is just my opinion.

Outcome 3) is improbable. Not impossible, I suppose, but I have yet to see a single post reporting outcome 3).

Up to you what you do, of course, but I think you might be better of waiting. If you haven't felt any warning signs yet, there is no need to worry about it. As soon as you feel the first familiar warning signs and you are SURE that a new cycle is on its way, you can decide what to do.
