Karen, absolutely yes for me! When I am in a cycle, I can't even go near alcohol of any kind, in any form, even if used in cooking. A sip of a drink will bring on a headache in 15 minutes, big time, guaranteed.
I have also found that at the first twinge of what I even suspect to be an impending cycle, I have to stop drinking immediately, and remain "stopped" for many weeks after the cycle has ended.
When, however, I'm out of cycle, nothing bothers me, and I can, and do, drink.
I'm sure some other folks have different reactions, but for me and for many,many others, alcohol should be avoided. It's the best and fastest way to ask for trouble.
