For me, yes to all that Mike R asked except I too don't notice sound being more intense.
However, I do kind of snap my neck/head during attacks. It hurts and it helps. (I do it repeatedly so it might look as if I'm "shaking" my head.) My brain does feel sore/bruised but it doesn't stop me. Anything to interrupt the pain for even miliseconds is welcome.
P.S. As some of you may know, I am chronic but haven't had an attack in 18 months since I started taking Vioxx.
