Yahoo and some others allow you to access your ISP (Internet Service Provider) accounts through them. All you need is your information such as POP3 and SMTP info and they will give you that right over the phone.
Yahoo has a link called check other mail. Click on it and then it will come up with a screen that has a button that says ADD MAIL SERVER. Click on that button and enter your info there. OK, I hear ya. I do not have a yahoo account. So make one. it takes all of a minute or so then access your account. It is very easy to set up and then you can check on the fly.
