Hallucinogens are actually used to treat addiction. Not shrooms specifically but closely related substances. A Doctor called Deborah Mash is study stuff (from memory I think it's called Ibogaine) to help people come off addictive drugs. I emailed her and she replied that they had noticed that the Ibogaine also had a positive effect on the people they were treating that also had vascular headaches.

So although shrooms aren't actually used to treat addiction (at the present time) They are - I can assure you - counter addictive. While they might or might not help with addiction problems, they certainly will not cause any new problems.
