while taking Fiorinal..the chances are really good that he is abusing it. I used it for years before Imitrex came out. I have had to use it when I was getting hit 4 and 5 times a day, and could not take but 2 Imitrex injections a day. It has never totally stopped the pain but it does help with a kip 3 or 4 (for some, it does nothing) . But, I do know from my past experience, if you are slurring your words while taking fiorinal, you are taking way too many of them. Fiorinal contains butalbital which is an addictive drug. If taken correctly, the chances of becoming addicted is slim. But if abused, the chances of becoming addicted to it are high. You need to confront him regarding his overuse of it. Has he tried Imitrex, Zomig, Amerge or any of the other nonaddictive abortives? Is he on any of the preventatives like verapamil, lithium, topamax?
