Carbamazepine is a specific analgesic for TN (Trigeminal Neuralgia) and the top notch neuros of the DMKG (German migraine and headache society) say it is of no use against CH. Could it be that your doc is mixing up CH and TN?
The drkoop.com drugchecker lists severe interactions between lithium and Imitrex and medium interactions between lithium and Tegretol, see link below.
