It's not the idea of just flooding the body with liquids....it's the cleansing effect that water has that does the trick for some people. Adding a sugary drink is just going to complicate things further -- and I don't think carbonated water is going to do the trick either - it's adding other chemicals that aren't going to help.
The MOST important thing to do with the water treatment, however, is to be med free. The folks who have tried this therapy that are on a myriad of chemical meds have NOT been successful at all. The water changes the salts balance in your system and the guy that introduced this theory to us a few years back (Dr. Jerry) thinks that is what is affecting the cluster cycle. It's also a good idea to try to take a multi-vitamin while you're trying this, don't want to wash out all the good stuff too.
Please let us know if your wife does try the water. Make sure she drinks enough of it - at least a tumbler full every hour while she's awake and then if she wakes in the night, get her to drink some more. Flood the beast out!!
