I had the exact same thought this morning!
But after a few more minutes of thinking, I came to a point much less romantic!
Since you do not think about the beast at all between cycles (at least that's my case), you don't tend to check the board or you don't tend to post messages. You might post an answer, if it touches you in a way or another.
On the contrary, when you're in a cycle, you would want everybody to know and understand you're in pain. So you go to the board and look for sympathy. You post, answer, etc.
Now, I must agree that I find the bonding theory much more exiting. And I must say that I would love it if it was truly the case!
