Hi James,
Like you I was on Depakote for only 6 months and gained 30 pounds. I also found my hair felling out. I was taking 2250mg a day. I no longer had headaches after 17 months of hell. my doctor wean me off after 6 months to see where I was with the headaches and if they would return after being off the medicine. I'm back to everyday headaches so I'v made an appointment with Dr. Kudrow here in LA. I will be seeing him on Aug 20th. I really don't want to have to go bad to Depakote although it did work very well for me, I don't want to gain any more weight or lose anymore hair. But I don't want to have to deal with these headaches everyday. I guess I would rather gain weight and lose my hair then have these headaches. I just hope there another way. Hope your Pain Free.
