As to your age question: I had my episodic attacks for 32 years. They disappeared 10 years ago at age 44. I'm not one who is sure this is permanent, but so far, I've not had even a post card from the beast. I hope it's dead rather than occupying a pigeon hole in a dead letter office.
I'm not alone here. Others in our neighborhood, have varying experiences with remission. Stick around and look us over. Somewhere here you will find something that will allow you to win a few rounds with this monster.
