Using a form of PET, Dr. Goadsby and his team have identified a very minute amount of excess gray matter in the area of the hypothalmus in clusterheads.

Do these extra cells cause clusters?

Do clusters cause an enlargement of the hypothalmus?

No one knows. Hence, theory.

As to the light theory, again....go check the Cluster Survey. The largest single group of respondants (35%) say that their cycles hit randomly - not in conjunction with the equinoxes.

14% get hit in the spring, 14% in the fall, 9%in the summer and 8% in the winter. Chronics, of course, get hit year round.

Here's the link to the light box guy's site. It can be found, along with many other valuable links, on the "Headache Links" button to the left.
