but welcome! My husband also has clusters. Hopefully the neuro your husband is going to see will get him started on a preventative med such as verapamil. Imitrex injections are effective and they can be stretched out a little....helps out when the insurance company isn't cooperative.
Meanwhile, ice packs work for many...heat works for others. Strong coffee can or heavily caffienated beverages can help. And, be sure to ask the neurologist about oxygen.
