If your nuerolgist is scheduling this for the first time now, that's good. A brain tumor can be ruled out. Although what you've described doesn't sound anything like a brain tumor. It sounds like cluster headaches to me because of the pain coming at the same time of the day and also that you've had 2-3 months w/out any pain.
Don't worry unless you need to. MRI's in many hospitals now are done with open chamber. Check to see if you can have one done with an open chamber for claustrophobia.
