Thanks to all of those who answered my query about if anyone had longer lasting cluster headaches.

A few notes:

Migraine therapies have not worked for him in the past and it's not tension headaches.

He's a very mild mannered person, doesn't stress out, etc. The headaches make him absolutely miserable. He's never voiced any suicidal thoughts but he's in so much pain he can't talk, think, etc. He definitely doesn't want to eat.

They start above the right eye, not in the eye. It's the same spot every time. The pain has a focal point on his forehead around that spot.

Some times he gets shooting stabbing pains that originate from that spot and aren't necessarily associated with a headache.

He probably has a problem with Excedrin but it's only compounding the chronic headaches. He's had the chronic headaches long before he started taking so much Excedrin.
