I'm sure one tries "anything" as a last resort. I, too, have seen death taking away those I cared about. On one occasion, I saw a corpsman inject adrenalin directly into a dying man's heart with a huge needle. He died anyway. Does that make adrenalin a useless drug ? Just a thought.
