I usually have A & E on for background noise on weekends and so I caught this episode of IR. My take was a bit different than Barb's though.
I thought they did a very good job of presenting both sides of the pain management disagreement - one doc who strongly believes that even opiates are acceptable and another who feels that the risks associated indicate that other means and methods should be used instead.
There was also a Fed govt rep (DEA? US Attorney? I can't recall) who said that the govt has no desire to prevent people from access to the meds they need, but that the problems with illegal drug trade make for a very slender tightrope to walk.
If you follow the link below, a supporter of opiate therapy lays to rest the myth that you can't get addicted if you take those meds for chronic pain. More importantly, he clearly lays out both the warning signs and the "false warnings" - valuable information for anyone who chooses to explore this avenue of relief.
