A spore print is a piece of paper or tin foil or sometimes a glass slide on which a mushroom cap has been set, allowing the spores to drop. A syringe is made from a spore print. Spores are scraped off the print and mixed with sterile water to form a suspension. This does two things. It rehydrates the spores (they must be rehydrated before they will germinate) and makes it extremely easy to get the spores into the food they grow on without allowing competing molds or bacteria to enter.
It is considerably easier as a first time grower to work with a pre-made syringe rather than having to make your own from a spore print.
