"God may show you mercy. We will not."
Damn great line. Nothing can sum it up better. I have sat here and shown my feelings for this country and what those bastards have done. Now I'll broach a different topic: Bigotry.
If we want to follow in the footsteps of those who looked at us and said "Americans! The despicable pricks" then all we have to do is blame an Arab. Or a moslem. Not one in particular like bin Laden. Just any one who happens to be around. Like the near 300 airline passengers, or the 50,000 Americans in the Twin Towers, we can use individuals as symbols because of their nationality. Or, we can climb above our internment of the Japanese 60 years ago and realize that ethnicity and religious belief has nothing to do with right and wrong. We should remember that Timothy McVeigh was a white, American man brought up under Christianity. Or, let's not forget the Jewish assasin of Yitzhak Rabin.
We are at a crossroads today. We can hate and persecute all Arabs and Moslems. We can continue what others have started and shoot shells into mosques and beat up anyone with an Arab appearance. Or we can stand tall and prove that the UN's belief and claims that we are a nation of bigots is anachronistic. We can love our neighbors from wherever they're from.
Our war is with bin Laden and the Taliban. Don't let your hatred bring it somwhere else.
