I disagree with you, (nothing personal).
While I agree that those bast@@ds pop up windows are a pain in the a§§ to any WEB surfer, this time I am "happy" to manage this pop-up.
It remember me CONTINUOUSLY what is happened in New York. Is a way to help us to remember, and don't forget.
And, on the other hand, is soooo small! you can put it in the background with a little click on the mouse.
