You say that your doc suggested you try some of the other triptans... by this I presume that you have tried Imitrex without success? There are other triptan-based meds available: Zomig, Maxalt, Amerge... but I believe Imitrex is still the only one available as an injection or as a nasal sprey.

My understanding of Stadol is that it is a narcotic, and apparently one that is easy to get hooked on and very difficult to withdraw from. There are some who argue that the narcotic meds cause a "rebound" effect, meaning that although they do kill the pain of the individual attacks, they end up prolonging the cycle.

I think that rather than trying to treat each individual headache as it comes, it makes more sense to take something that will stop the cycle completely. Why not look into the most successful cycle-stopper ever discovered?
